Where is Endeavour set?
Endeavour is set in 1969 and sees Detective Inspector Morse, crack cases in his hometown, Oxford, England.
Oxford is central to the career of Endeavour as the series begins when he abandons his studies at Oxford University to become a policeman.
Endeavour picks up from series five, which saw the dissolution of the Oxford City Police and its merger with Thames Valley Constabulary.
The series sees Endeavour Morse beginning his career as a detective constable and his progression to detective sergeant.
Much of the drama takes place in Cowley Police Station in Oxford.
Where is Endeavour series 6 filmed?
Endeavour is largely filmed on location in Oxford and the surrounding area of Oxfordshire.
Notable locations from Oxfordshire that feature in Endeavour include Oxford University’s Boolean Library and Christ Church College.
The Sheldonian Theatre in Oxford was turned into a 1960s dance hall in Endeavour.
Radcliffe Square also is used for filming in Endeavour and Oxford’s iconic Bridge of Sighs in New Cross Lane.
Interiors of many of Oxford colleges including Magdalen College, Keble College and St Edmund’s Hall also feature.
Other familiar Oxford locations include Alternative Tuck Shop and the Bodleian Library.
Many of the pubs in Oxfordshire feature in Endeavour and fans can even do a pub crawl based on the iconic drinking spots.
These include the White Horse, the King’s Arms, The Eagle and Child, MacDonald Randolph Hotel, the Bear Inn, and the Lamb and Flag.
Previously, the exterior shots of Cowley police station are taken from the Prytaneum Court in Enfield, London.
However, the police station in the new series was filmed in an entirely new location.
Speaking to the Radio Times, set designer Paul Cripps said: “In the series, the 1970s is approaching.
“Because we were moving from Oxford City Police it was a really good chance to move the series on in terms of the feel that we’re approaching a whole new era.
“So I built a whole new modernist police station.”
The new station was filmed at the St Cross Building in Oxford, which is a faculty library and lecture space for English and Law at the University of Oxford.
Cripps added: “We’ve been using that as an exterior and I’ve built interiors to match in the studio.
“I was trying to get that slightly sour 70s feel into the series, while still keeping that kind of beautiful Oxford feeling.
“We’ve still got sets where it still has that classic feel, but occasionally we’ve tried to bring in a much more modern feel.”
You can also do an Endeavour filming location tour in Oxford, where you can see the numerous filming locations and visit the pubs.
